Buy/Sell NFL 2010
Each year, my contacts provide me with inside information on every team in the NFL. To truly excel in my business, you need more information that what is readily available to the general public via radio, television, and newspaper. My contacts talk with players, coaches, and scouts to find out the real expectations from each franchise. Every team wants to win every week but the bottom line is the people involved with the NFL really know how good each particular team is and I rely on the their information throughout the year to determine which teams I will bet on. Here are two teams I would BUY this year and two teams I would SELL.

BUY:

Houston Texans: In Texas, you always hear, “How bout them Cowboys?” This season, you are going to hear, “How bout them Texans.” They finished last season with 4 straight victories and a record of 9-7 but were still unable to break the ice into the playoffs. All offseason long, Gary Kubiak stressed the importance of taking this franchise to the next level. Matt Shaub will lead a prolific offense featuring star wide-out Andre Johnson. Last year, the two hooked up for 1,569 yards and 9 touchdowns. With the return of a healthy Owen Daniels, look for both Shaub and Johnson to top last year’s numbers. Second year running back Arian Foster has really been making a name for himself at training camp and in the preseason. My scouts tell me he is a force to be reckoned with and will be the featured back come week one. Although the Texans have one of the toughest schedules in the NFL, I feel they put it all together this year and not only win the AFC South, but make a run deep into the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Steelers: I am telling you right now watch out for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yes, they lost WR Santonio Holmes (trade), OL Willie Colon (injury), and won’t have QB Ben Roethlisberger for the first four games of the season but this team is still a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Dick Lebeau is very excited about his defense and is quoted saying, “When we are healthy, we are the best in the league.” This unit has a swagger about them with a look very comparable to the Steel Curtain days of old. The defense knows they will have to bring the wood all season long to make up for an offense that will take some time to come around due to the early absence of Big Ben. On the offensive side of the ball, Pittsburgh has some young talent that has improved tremendously over the offseason. Third year RB Rashard Mendenhall will become a focal point as the Steelers will try to establish a running game early in the season. Second year WR Mike Wallace will step up alongside of veteran WR Hines Ward and TE Heath Miller which should produce effective numbers through the air once Ben returns. Everyone is so quick to throw the Steelers under the bus but Mike Tomlin is confident his squad knows how to win and will do so in 2010.

SELL:

Dallas Cowboys: All the money in the world couldn’t buy the Dallas Cowgirls a Super Bowl. Sorry Jerry, your billion dollar stadium is a gorgeous venue, but that alone will not put banners in the rafters. Last year after winning their first playoff game since 1996, the ‘boys supposedly “got the monkey off of their back,” but were embarrassed the following week by the Vikings 34-3. Returning 20 of 22 starters and Wade Phillips in now his 4th year as head coach, many are calling for Dallas to win the NFC East and be Super Bowl bound. Well, not me! Dallas is stuck with the 4th toughest schedule and for sure in one the hardest divisions in football. The NFC East is stacked with 4 solid football teams who will beat up on each other all year long. QB Tony Romo will lead an offense that has produced in recent years but just has not been able to get the job done late in the season. I predict a mediocre year for Cowboys and if they were to make the playoffs, there stay would be short lived.

Minnesota Vikings: How could I possibly sell the Minnesota Vikings? Let me start with the Brett Favre saga and how this will be a huge part in the downfall of the Vikings. After most of the preseason had passed with no sign of ole Brett, Coach Brad Childress said enough was enough and sent PK Ryan Longwell, DL Jared Allen, and OL Steve Hutchinson to Brett’s house in Mississippi to literally pick him up out of his La-Z-Boy recliner and bring him to practice. Keep in mind that most teams have been perfecting their offensive timing between QB’s and WR’s all offseason long, and here is a guy who is going to be 41 years old walking into the huddle a few weeks before the start of the season. I understand Brett Favre is one of the best QB’s of all time but this cannot go on forever. Furthermore, the loss of WR Sidney Rice for at least the first six weeks of the season will be a huge detriment to this offensive unit. Yes, Adrian Peterson is one of the best running backs in football, but the passing game in Minnesota has major issues. Their defensive line is arguably the best in the league but holes in the secondary will be exposed by the likes of Drew Brees, Mark Sanchez, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady all who will be seen on their first 4 road games. I call for a possible NFC Wildcard spot but not much more after that.
